    Ontology-based model-driven patterns for notification-oriented data-intensive enterprise information systems

    International audienceIn the fourth industrial revolution, the current Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) are facing a set of new challenges raised by the applications of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and Internet of Things (IoT). In this scenario, a data-intensive EIS involves networks of physical objects with sensing, data collection, transmission and actuation capabilities, and vast endpoints in the cloud, thereby offering large amounts of data. Such systems can be considered as a multidisciplinary complex system with strong interrelations between the involved components. In order to cope with the big heterogeneousness of those physical objects and their intrinsic information, the authors propose a notification-based approach derived from the so-called Notification Oriented Paradigm (NOP), a new rule and event driven approach for software and hardware specification and execution. However, the heterogeneity of those information and their interpretation relatively to an evolving context impose the definition of model-driven patterns based on some formal knowledge modelled by a set of skill-based ontologies. Thus, the paper focuses on the open issue related to the formalisation of such ontology-based patterns for their verification, ensuring the coherence of the whole set of data in each contextual engineering domain involved in the EIS

    Exploring OCR Capabilities of GPT-4V(ision) : A Quantitative and In-depth Evaluation

    This paper presents a comprehensive evaluation of the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) capabilities of the recently released GPT-4V(ision), a Large Multimodal Model (LMM). We assess the model's performance across a range of OCR tasks, including scene text recognition, handwritten text recognition, handwritten mathematical expression recognition, table structure recognition, and information extraction from visually-rich document. The evaluation reveals that GPT-4V performs well in recognizing and understanding Latin contents, but struggles with multilingual scenarios and complex tasks. Specifically, it showed limitations when dealing with non-Latin languages and complex tasks such as handwriting mathematical expression recognition, table structure recognition, and end-to-end semantic entity recognition and pair extraction from document image. Based on these observations, we affirm the necessity and continued research value of specialized OCR models. In general, despite its versatility in handling diverse OCR tasks, GPT-4V does not outperform existing state-of-the-art OCR models. How to fully utilize pre-trained general-purpose LMMs such as GPT-4V for OCR downstream tasks remains an open problem.     A semantic annotation framework to assist the knowledge interoperability along a product life cycle

The aim of this study is to deal with the semantic interoperability issues in a product lifecycle management environment. Through the investigation of related works, the need for the formalization of semantic annotation was discovered. This paper addresses this drawback and introduces a framework that uses formalized semantic annotations to assist the knowledge interoperability along a product life cycle

    Semantic enrichment of models to assist knowledge management in a PLM environment

    International audienceProduct Lifecycle Management (PLM) has been considered as an essential con-cept for improving the product competitive ability in manufacturing enterprises. The PLM solution aims at providing a shared platform for facilitating the man-agement of the knowledge related to any product development process in or across enterprises. However, facing with different standards, enterprise systems and stakeholders, enterprises still need to deal with interoperability issues be-tween those collaborative information systems, encompassing their capability to find the right information during the whole Product Life Cycle (PLC). The objec-tive of this paper is to cope with the major issue of semantic interoperability, by proposing a formalization of semantic annotations and a prototype for facilitating a coherent, complete and contextualized interoperability of knowledge between all enterprise systems and related stakeholders. An example of the instantiation of our method within a real application scenario in manufacturing domain is present-ed to demonstrate its applicability and use, both at the engineering and the exploi-tation phases

    Insolation driven biomagnetic response to the Holocene Warm Period in semi-arid East Asia

    The Holocene Warm Period (HWP) provides valuable insights into the climate system and biotic responses to environmental variability and thus serves as an excellent analogue for future global climate changes. Here we document, for the first time, that warm and wet HWP conditions were highly favourable for magnetofossil proliferation in the semi-arid Asian interior. The pronounced increase of magnetofossil concentrations at ~9.8 ka and decrease at ~5.9 ka in Dali Lake coincided respectively with the onset and termination of the HWP, and are respectively linked to increased nutrient supply due to postglacial warming and poor nutrition due to drying at ~6 ka in the Asian interior. The two-stage transition at ~7.7 ka correlates well with increased organic carbon in middle HWP and suggests that improved climate conditions, leading to high quality nutrient influx, fostered magnetofossil proliferation. Our findings represent an excellent lake record in which magnetofossil abundance is, through nutrient availability, controlled by insolation driven climate changes.This research was supported by the NSFC grant 41330104 and the 973 program grant 2012CB821900.     Dans l'industrie l'approche de gestion du cycle de vie du produit (PLM) a été considérée comme une solution essentielle pour améliorer la compétitivité des produits. Elle vise à fournir une plate-forme commune qui rassemble les différents systèmes de l'entreprise à chaque étape du cycle de vie du produit dans ou à travers les entreprises. Bien que les principaux éditeurs de logiciels fassent des efforts pour créer des outils offrant un ensemble complet et intégré de systèmes, la plupart d' entre eux n'intègrent pas l'ensemble des systèmes. Enfin, ils ne fournissent pas une intégration cohérente de l'ensemble du système d'information. Il en résulte une sorte de « tour de Babel », où chaque application est considérée comme une île au milieu de l'océan de l'information, gérée par de nombreuses parties prenantes dans une entreprise, ou même dans un réseau d'entreprises. L'hétérogénéité des parties prenantes augmente le problème d'interopérabilité.
